The Hertie School’s Centre for International Security invites proposals for its annual nuclear security workshop, taking place from 10 to
11 July, 2025 at the Hertie School in Berlin. This event, made possible through the generous support of the Stanton Foundation, aims to foster exchange among a new generation of researchers from Europe and beyond who are studying nuclear security policy. We welcome submissions covering a broad range of topics related to nuclear security. However, we are particularly interested in papers that address the following themes:
- European nuclear strategy and doctrine in an era of great power competition
- Demand and supply of extended deterrence and assurance
- Managing assurance and extended deterrence within NATO in the post-2022 nuclear environment
Please provide an abstract (max. 300 words) via the online portal Interfolio by 14 March 2025. Please kindly note that we are soliciting applications from PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and professors only.
The workshop sessions will take place at the Hertie School on 10 and 11 July, 2025. We will also host an optional welcome dinner on 9 July for those arriving early. The workshop will conclude after lunch on 11 July.
We will cover travel expenses (economy fare) and accommodation costs (two nights for European participants and three nights for those traveling from overseas). We are also happy to assist with booking arrangements.
Decisions regarding the workshop program and selected participants will be communicated by early April 2025. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to: cis[at]hertie-school[dot]org.
