Experts call for further action to improve the UN treaty body individual communication mechanisms

Members of academia and civil society make recommendations in view of the 2020 UN Human Rights Treaty Body Review.

Ahead of the 2020 UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies Review, members of academia and civil society issued, today, 17. February 2020, recommendations to improve the system of UN treaty body individual communication mechanisms. The report is the outcome of a workshop organised by Hertie school’s Centre for Fundamental rights together with PluriCourts, University of Oslo, and the University of Hamburg. It urges all stakeholders involved in devising and implementing further action to strengthen and enhance the effective functioning of the UN Human Rights Treaty Body System individual complaint mechanisms to ensure that the victim-centered perspective and the end-user community perspectives are fully incorporated in all efforts to improve the system.
