Helmut K. Anheier comments on the state of US democracy in the New York Times

“The United States did not get here over night,” says the Professor of Sociology.

For its Canadians and Taiwanese neighbours, the United States used to be a beacon of democracy – not so anymore, according to a New York Times article published on 8 November. Since Donald Trump took office in 2017, and especially since the Capitol attack after he lost the presidential election to Joe Biden, many are concerned the country is sliding in the wrong direction. Helmut K. Anheier, Senior Professor of Sociology and former President of the Hertie School, comments.
