Faculty and alumni discussed AI, data science and health governance with experts and policy-makers in New Delhi and Bangalore.
From 17 to 20 October 2022, the Hertie School organised an international conference on the topic “Future of Healthcare: Examining the convergence of AI, Data Science and Health Governance in a post-COVID world" in New Delhi and Bangalore, India. The conference brought together Indian and German partners from the public sector, private businesses and research institutions, and addressed topics such as how COVID-19 has strained health systems globally, and how uncertain governance and regulatory environments require more attention.
Faculty members Mujaheed Shaikh, Professor of Health Governance; Slava Jankin, Professor of Data Science and Public Policy and Director of the Data Science Lab; and Shubha Kamala Prasad, Assistant Professor of International Relations, took part in the conference alongside more than 20 Hertie School alumni, Managing Director Axel Baisch and staff.
“Hosting this conference on such an important interdisciplinary topic in India really puts a spotlight on digital health innovation,” said Axel Baisch. “The Hertie School is thrilled to collaborate with such great partners from India and Germany to see how we can co-create more supportive governance and facilitate new innovation environments.”
“I want to congratulate the Hertie School for this initiative: the dialogue amongst stakeholders to drive solutions for global solutions, universal health coverage and data privacy,” said German Ambassador to India and Bhutan Dr. Philipp Ackermann in his welcome address to conference participants at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi on 18 October. "I am optimistic that this conference will be a starting point of many Indo-German exchanges.”
The conference was organised in partnership with Siemens Healthineers, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences from Mumbai and the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supported the conference financially, with funds from the German Federal Foreign Office and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development which enabled Hertie School alumni working in the field of healthcare and digitalisation to join the conference from around the world.
