Hertie School offers new scholarships in sustainability and security policy

Brazilian foundation supports training of public administration experts.

Berlin, 31 January 2019 – The Hertie School is offering three new scholarships for students applying to its master’s degree programmes. The scholarships focus on sustainability and energy policy, as well as international security policy. Due to the growing importance of these topics and interest among students, the university is also significantly expanding its research and teaching capacities in these areas. A further scholarship is aimed at young public administration experts in Brazil, and is supported by the Brazilian foundation Instituto República. Successful candidates will begin their two-year master’s degree programmes at the Hertie School in September 2019.

The Sustainability and Energy Policy Scholarship will be awarded to two students in the Master of Public Policy (MPP) or Master of International Affairs (MIA) programmes whose interests lie in global sustainability, renewable energy, and the transformation of energy systems. The full scholarship is worth 32,500 euros and is open to applicants of all nationalities. 

The International Security Policy Scholarship is offered in connection with the Hertie School’s Centre for International Security Policy, led by Professor Wolfgang Ischinger. The scholarship is open to students applying for the MIA programme, with a specific interest in the security challenges facing the international community. Two full scholarships are available, each worth 32,500 euros.  It is available to applicants of all nationalities. 

The Scholarship for Public Servants in Brazil is for students with two years or more of work experience in the Brazilian public sector. Funded by the foundation Instituto República, which has contributed 100,000 euros, the scholarship covers 50% or more of tuition fees for students in the MPP, MIA or Executive Master of Public Administration programmes. Recipients must commit to working in the public sector in Brazil after graduation.

The application deadline for the sustainability and security policy scholarships is 1 April, and for the Scholarship for Public Servants in Brazil 1 May 2019.
