Hurrelmann offers perpective from his new book on the politics of a climate-conscious generation.
How young people are shaping politics today was the topic of a panel discussion on 21 September 2020, launching both a new book by Hertie School Professor of Public Health and Education Klaus Hurrelmann and a new Hertie Foundation programme, Jugend entscheidet, which aims to involve young people in local politics. The event was held at Tipi am Kanzleramt and streamed online.
Hurrelmann also presented his new book, Generation Greta: What they think, how they feel and why the climate is just the beginning, at the Frankfurt Book Fair in a separate discussion on 15 October. The book was published in German by Beltz in March 2020.

In addition to Hurrelmann, panellists included "Fridays for Future" activist Franziska Wessel, Federal Chairman of the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group Robert Habeck, and Nordwalde local council member Sven Hülskötter. Hertie Foundation managing director Elisabeth Niejahr moderated. Participants discussed not only the political views of the young generation, but how German politics might change if the voting age was lowered.
“When it comes to climate, this young generation has realised that they can and will make a difference,” Hurrelmann said.
