New cooperation between Hertie School and TATA Institute of Social Sciences

Partnership strengthens the school's international network and fosters academic exchange.

The Hertie School has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the TATA Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in India to expand and strengthen cooperation for an initial period of five years.

The partnership will focus on academic exchange and research cooperation, with a strong focus on the fields of digital governance and sustainability and builds on the internationalisation focus of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

“It is tremendously exciting to think about the impact our researchers and students will contribute as a result of our collaboration – a true embodiment of our shared commitment toward active engagement for the common good,” says Axel Baisch, Managing Director of the Hertie School.

As part of the agreement, the Hertie School and TISS will work together on mapping graduate programmes in Public Policy and on data-informed governance. This will include a close collaboration between the Centre of Digital Governance, the Data Science Lab and the soon to be launched Centre of Sustainability at the Hertie School and the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policies at TISS.

TISS was established in 1936 in Mumbai as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work, as the first of its kind in India. It was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 1944. Since its inception, TISS has strived to be an institution of excellence in higher education. There are four campuses of TISS across India, located in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati.
