SWR- The Eurogroup as a "committee that thinks ahead”

The main task for the new Eurogroup presidency is to find common solutions for a secure euro area, argues Lucas Guttenberg in an interview with SWR.

"In the medium term, I see the Eurogroup as a body that is less concerned with the question of control and more with thinking ahead and jointly seeking solutions for a secure eurozone," explains Lucas Guttenberg in an interview with SWR2. Hence, the new president of the Eurogroup needs the ability to build consensus among the euro states. Guttenberg sees this quality in all candidates. Yet, with her experience in the EU Commission and as the first woman in this office, the Spanish Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño, would be "a good choice".
