Vaccination strategies in Europe and Germany – the way forward

On 20 May, the Hertie School hosted experts to compare different vaccination approaches, discuss equitable distribution, and understand the role of public health agencies like the Robert Koch Institute.

With vaccination strategies in various stages of implementation, the Hertie School hosted an event looking at the current status of vaccinations in Europe with a focus on Germany, moderated by Professor of Health Governance Mujaheed Shaikh.

We were pleased to welcome the Director of the Robert Koch Institute, Prof. Dr. Lothar Wieler, to better understand the role of public health agencies like his in confronting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Dr. Nikola Biller-Andorno, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine (IBME) at the University of Zurich, alongside Prof. Dr. Katharina Hauck, Reader in Health Economics and Deputy Director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics (J-IDEA) at the Imperial College London, provided additional insight into effective health interventions and the ethics around vaccine distribution.
