Video: Lion Hirth in an Energy Policy Dialogue hosted by FDP Members of the German Parliament

The Professor of Energy Policy joined other experts to debate future energy policy measures for Germany, including how to move toward renewable energies while remaining globally competitive.

Spring is just around the corner and the precautionary measures taken in response to the energy crisis, from LNG terminals and fill level specifications to the reactivation of coal and the continued operation of nuclear power plants, etc. have helped see us through the winter. But the risks remain and for many, energy prices remain high. Some consumers and entrepreneurs are unsettled.

What does it take to ensure a secure supply of electricity and gas that also enables us to be globally competitive? What other contributions could domestic shale gas or nuclear energy make? And how do we manage to replace coal, oil and natural gas as quickly as possible with renewable energies, CO2-free hydrogen and climate-neutral heat?

These are the questions Professor Lion Hirth and co-panelists considered in the panel organised by the FDP on the 14. March. In addition to Professor Hirth, panelists included First Parliamentary Secretary of the Free Democrats parliamentary group in the German Bundestag Johannes Vogel; Prof. Dr. Veronika Grimm, Wirtschaftsweise; Barbie Haller, Vice President of the Federal Network Agency; and Stefan Kapferer, CEO, 50Hertz Transmission.
