Alumni Reunion 2017

Extraordinary times call for an extraordinary reunion.

Our annual reunion will take place 28-30 April and focus, for the first time, on an overarching topic: How should the Hertie School community react to populism?

A central element of the reunion will be an idea paper prepared by all of us based on initial input from the Alumni Councils.

The paper will be discussed on Friday, 28 April in the afternoon by you, Henrik Enderlein, Frank Mattern (Chairman of the School’s Board of Trustees) and Andrea Römmele:

4:00 pm   Registration, coffee and snacks
5:00 pm   Welcome: Frank Mattern (Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Hertie School) and Axel Baisch
(Managing Director, Hertie School)
5:30 pm   Presentation of idea paper and fishbowl discussion on 'How should the Hertie Community respond to populism?'

  • Presentation: Jan Jakub Chromiec (MPP Alumni Council)
  • Panelists: Henrik Enderlein (Professor of Political Economy and Associate Dean, Hertie School; Director, Jacques Delors Institut - Berlin), Andrea Römmele (Professor for Communication in Politics & Civil Society and Director Executive Education, Hertie School), and Frank Mattern (Senior Partner, McKinsey&Company; Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Hertie School)
  • Moderation: Lars Wilke (EMPA Alumni Council)

The discussion is open to the Hertie School community and participation is free of charge. Prior registration is not required.

The discussion will be followed by the traditional alumni dinner, separate for MPP and EMPA alumni.

On Saturday morning, 29 April we will be offering several thematic workshops based on ideas from the paper.

In addition, you are welcome to organise your own workshops on the topic: please approach us at alumnicouncil[at]hertie-school[dot]org with your proposals.

Saturday afternoon features a facilitated networking event between MPP alumni and other members of the Hertie School community.

In parallel, Executive MPA alumni will have the opportunity to network and discuss career development and public management reforms in their respective institutions.

Saturday night the fellows & friends Programme and the Hertie-Innovationskolleg invite you to a reception for all Hertie School alumni, fellows and friends of the Hertie Foundation in Berlin and new scholars of the Hertie-Innovationskolleg at Beach Mitte Berlin. Like last year, the reception will include food, music and dancing.

We will finish on Sunday, 30 April with a relaxed brunch.

The full programme can be found below.

To register for the reunion, please visit this webpage.

If you register online by 20 March, the registration fee will be reduced to 25 euros. Your registration fee helps cover the cost of organising this reunion, which includes several catered meals and instructors for the mini-courses. We want to ensure, however, that this registration fee doesn't prevent an alumna/alumnus from attending; please contact us to request a hardship exemption.
