Professor of Communication in Politics engages fellow experts and political leaders on the fundamentals of democratic participation in Germany.

What motivates someone to seek political office? How do Members of Parliament work in the German Bundestag? How have MPs maintained their connection to their constituents during the pandemic and in times of social distancing?

These, and other questions, are explored by Hertie School Professor of Communication in Politics and Civil Society, Andrea Römmele in a new series for German public broadcaster ARD-alpha. The first episode, set in the historic Reichstag building in the heart of Berlin, will air on Monday 24 May at 7:30 p.m.

The series, which was conceptualized by Professor Römmele alongside the broadcaster, aims to increase awareness and understanding of democratic institutions and actors in Germany during an eventful year in German electoral politics. Further episodes will air this summer and in autumn.
