The Hertie School community commemorates the life of past President and offers ways to support the family and express condolences.
Over the last week, many members of our community have reached out to offer reflections about Henrik and inquire about ways in which you can support his family.
A book of condolence is now available in the main foyer of our campus at Friedrichstrasse 180. An online book of condolence is also available.
Both the physical and virtual books will be sent to Henrik’s family who have asked that we collect these contributions on their behalf. The online condolence book allows an opportunity to include photos of Henrik, and we would encourage you to add a photo in addition to written messages.
We would also like to share preliminary details about how we will commemorate Henrik’s life and his many contributions to academia, public policy and the political sphere.
- A private service will be held by Henrik’s family later this month.
- A joint memorial recognising Henrik’s political contributions and legacy, with a specific focus on his steadfast commitment to the Franco-German partnership, is being organised with our partners in Paris. This memorial will be livestreamed to allow as many members of our community as possible to participate.
- At this year’s upcoming Alumni Reunion, set to take place the weekend of 10-12 September, we would like to bring together alumni, staff and faculty to honour Henrik’s vision for the Hertie School. Our alumni team will share an invitation to the reunion in the days ahead.
- Acknowledging Henrik’s excellence in research, we will organise a symposium this autumn in his name, which will explore topics related to his academic work.
Following the wishes of Henrik’s family and in line with his ideals of supporting international – especially Franco-German – exchange among young people, we request that in lieu of flowers, well-wishers send donations for the ‘Henrik Enderlein Scholarship Fund’. This scholarship will be used to fund travel and living expenses for Masters and PhD students in the years ahead.
