The Professor of Energy Policy explains connections and consequences of surging gas and electricity prices.

As energy prices soar, Europe faces a severe crisis, which will put a heavy burden on households. So far, rising gas prices have mostly been linked to shortages resulting directly from the war in Ukraine. But now, electricity tariffs are also skyrocketing. On the 29 August broadcast of Tagesthemen, Professor of Energy Policy Lion Hirth explains how these effects are intertwined and what measures can be taken to soften the blow for private citizens.
