A message of support to the Black community and against racism from our President.
It is with great shock and concern that the Hertie School is witnessing the developments in the United States. On behalf of our community, I would like to express our heartfelt solidarity with the Black community and the fight for justice.
As a public policy school located in Germany, every instance of racial discrimination reminds us of the darkest moments of our own country’s past when racism, oppression and prejudicial behaviour were normalised. The unity of societies and humankind altogether is only possible on the basis of the rule of law, the separation of powers, democracy and the unconditional respect for human rights. A society that tacitly tolerates hatred and violations of human rights runs the risk of collapsing altogether.
We will never tolerate racism and we will always stand with those fighting against it.
