As part of the opening ceremony, the Hertie School and Germany's Federal Chancellery have today signed a letter of intent detailing a close cooperation in education. The agreement will allow a limited number of students admitted to the HSoG to postpone entry for one year by gaining work experience in the Federal Government. Close collaboration is also planned throughout the two-year MPP programme for example, as concerns internships and projects.
Prof. Michael Zürn, the Dean of the Hertie School, showed himself delighted by the agreement. "The cooperation puts into effect objectives of the MPP with its combination of practical work experience lasting up to 12 months before studies start with continued contact to the Federal Chancellery throughout the two-year course". Dr. Ewold Seeba, Under Secretary at the Federal Chancellery, also saw advantages. "The students of the Hertie School will receive real insights into the work of the Federal Government through the agreed one-year training position. Reciprocally, we gain flexibility in our personnel recruiting."
Similar agreements are planned with other federal ministries. The agreements complement already existing cooperations with national and international organizations, universities and centres of scientific excellence.
