Hertie School community mourns the loss of Sylke Tempel

On 28 September 2017, Sylke Tempel moderated a discussion on Germany, UK, France: Lessons from an unsettling European election year at the Hertie School.

Sylke Tempel, Editor-in-Chief of the DGAP journals Internationale Politik and Berlin Policy Journal, died in an accident on 5 October 2017.

With great sadness, we learned of the sudden, tragic death of Sylke Tempel. The Hertie School community mourns the loss of a dear friend and one of the most insightful and prolific voices in Germany’s foreign policy dialogue.

Sylke has been a member of the Hertie School community since its inception, and we are thankful for her frequent contributions to many Hertie School events, in which she helped inspire and inform public debate – as she did just last week. Her passing is a deep loss to our community, and indeed to all engaged in foreign policy dialogue.

Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones, to whom we offer our sincerest condolences in their time of grief.
