Daniela Stockmann also brings another prestigious ERC Grant to the Hertie School.
Berlin, 8 March 2017 –Daniela Stockmann joins the Hertie School in Berlin as Professor of Digital Politics and Media. The political scientist comes from Leiden University and focuses on the challenges posed by digitalisation to policymakers and citizens.
Stockmann, 38, will also continue her research project <link en authoritarianism2.0>“Authoritarianism 2.0” investigating the role new media plays in shaping people’s behaviour, specifically in China, which is funded by a Starting Grant of the European Research Council (ERC). The ERC was created by the European Commission, and its Starting Grants are awarded to exceptional early-career researchers in all disciplines to attract young talent to Europe.
This is the second prestigious ERC Grant for the Hertie School. Mark Dawson professor of European law and Governance, received a 1.2 million euro ERC Grant in September 2016 for his project LEVIATHAN.
Stockmann holds degrees from the University of Rochester, the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, and a PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (2007). Prior to joining the Hertie School faculty, she was Associate Professor of Political Science at Leiden University. Her book, Media Commercialization and Authoritarian Rule in China (Cambridge University Press, 2013), received the 2015 Goldsmith Book Prize awarded by the Harvard Kennedy School Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy.
