The American political scientist, Stephen F. Szabo, presented his latest publication "Mending or Parting Ways" on February 8th 2005 in the American Academy, Berlin.
The Professor for European Studies of the Johns Hopkins University had analysed the prospects for the German-American Relations and asks about the future relationship between both states. Was the split of the last years between Washington and Berlin temporary, attributable to the personalities of the Bush and Schroeder governments, or was it a precursor of deeper changes?
Szabo discussed his theses with Ronald Steel, Professor for Political Science of the University of Southern California. The American Academy organized the event together with the Hertie School. Professor Michael Zürn, Dean of the Hertie School, moderated the evening.
Since 1983, Szabo has published several books about Germany and its political role in the world. Currently he holds a Chair in German Studies at the Bologna Center of Johns Hopkins University. In 2006 he plans to lecture in the Hertie School's Master's Programme.
