Andrea Römmele new Director of Executive Education

First Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) enriches study programme portfolio.

Berlin, 14 October 2014 - Andrea Römmele, Professor for Communication in Politics and Civil Society at the Hertie School, takes over as the Academic Director of the School’s Executive Education department. She follows in the footsteps of Professor Gerhard Hammerschmid, who led the Executive Education team from 2008, and will now dedicate more time to his research while supporting the expansion of the school’s "Public Management" competency field.

The Executive Education department includes the study programme Executive Master of Public Administration (Executive MPA), a range of Seminars and Certificates for experienced professionals as well as a unit for Customised Education, which develops and implements tailor-made training packages for companies and organisations. “Gerhard Hammerschmid and his team have developed and expanded our Executive Education offering very successfully since 2008. The school’s portfolio has continued to grow and attracts participants from all over the world and many different sectors. Andrea Römmele will continue in this vein. In the coming years we plan to expand our course offerings for public administration, business and organisations on national and international levels. We will also explore new opportunities regarding the digitalisation of course formats,” said Hertie School President, Helmut K. Anheier.

The first project in this digitalisation strategy kicks off today (14 October): Under the leadership of Andrea Römmele, the Hertie School’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) focuses on policy advice. In the course “Governance and Policy Advice: How Political Decisions Come to Life” Römmele and a team of guest lectures from academia and practice explore the inner workings of policy advice and political consulting as well as their impact on governance. The English language course, for which almost 7000 participants have already registered, is offered in cooperation with the European MOOC-Portal iversity.
