Dual Degree Programmes with Bocconi and the University of Tokyo.
Berlin, 10 September 2012 - With the appointment of two new Professors the Hertie School started its new Academic Year 2012/2013 this week. Prof. Johanna Mair, PhD will teach and research at the Hertie School as Professor for Organization, Management and Leadership, Dr. Dr. Björn Niehaves as the ]init[ AG -endowed Professor for E-Governance and Innovation. With the addition of Mair and Niehaves the Hertie School's interdisciplinary faculty has grown to 19 members. Prof. Dr. Sascha Spoun, President of the Leuphana University Lüneburg, was also appointed as new member of the School's Supervisory Board.
Johanna Mair is the Hewlett Foundation Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society and the Academic Editor of the Stanford Social Innovation Review. From 2001 to 2011 she served on the Strategic Management faculty at IESE Business School. Her research focuses on how novel organizational and institutional arrangements generate economic and social development and the role of innovation in this process. She is the co-editor of three books and has published in leading academic journal.
Björn Niehaves is Schumpeter Fellow of the Volkswagen Foundation and a Visiting Professor at the Aalto School of Economics, Helsinki. He received a PhD in Information Systems and a PhD in Political Science from Muenster University. Prior to joining the Hertie School, Niehaves headed a research group at the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS), Muenster University. Niehaves will start as Professor for E-Governance and Innovation at the Hertie School on 1 October 2012.
Almost 160 Students from 42 countries start their studies at the Hertie School today (10 September 2012). 120 of them as part of the two-year programme, the Master of Public Policy (MPP), which will prepare them to enter careers at the intersection of the private, public and civil society sectors. The Executive Master of Public Management (EMPM) has an incoming cohort of 28 Students, who bring an average of eleven years professional experience to their studies. The new Doctoral Programme, the PhD in Governance, has a first cohort of nine students.
The Hertie School's global network of academic partners has also expanded: As of the Academic Year 2012/2013 MPP Students have the opportunity to complete a Dual Degree at the University of Tokyo or Bocconi University in Milan. 40 Percent of the MPP Students complete either an exchange semester or a full academic year at one of the Hertie School's 20 partner universities.
