Nominated in the social enterprise category, Johanna Mair is the only nominee from a German-speaking country.
Thinkers 50, a ranking of global business thinkers, shortlisted Johanna Mair for this year’s Distinguished Achievement Awards, which have been described as the “Oscars of management thinking” (Financial Times). The professor at the Hertie School is one of eight leading thinkers in the field of social entrepreneurship, according to the Thinkers 50 selection committee.
The ranking has been published every two years since 2001. This year the committee focused on “thinkers whose ideas have the potential to change the world”. It has shortlisted about 70 business experts from more than 12 countries. Johanna Mair is the only nominee from a German speaking country. The ceremony will take place in London on 9 November 2015.
Johanna Mair is Professor of Management, Strategy and Leadership and researches how novel organizational and institutional arrangements generate economic and social development and the role of innovation in this process. She is also the Hewlett Foundation Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society and the Academic Editor of the Stanford Social Innovation Review. Next to that she works with the World Economic Forum and advises foundations and social venture funds. She is currently heading up i-share, a research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research that aims to investigate various questions related to the sharing economy. Furthermore, she contributes to SEFORIS, a multi-disciplinary research programme, funded by the European Commission, that investigates the potential of social enterprise in the EU and beyond.
