Klaus Hurrelmann appointed to "Expert Council on Demography"

First meeting with Thomas de Maizière focuses on education and challenges for job markets. 

Klaus Hurrelmann has participated in the first meeting of the “Expert Council on Demography“ on 16 September at the German Federal Ministry of the Interior. The Council is part of the “Demography Strategy” that was adopted by the Federal Government in 2012 to tackle the issue of demographic change and develop new policies and solutions for the aging German society.

During the first meeting of the council, the members discussed chances and challenges of family life in the light of demographic change – Federal Minister of the Interior, Thomas de Maizière put a special focus on education and challenges for future job markets.

Klaus Hurrelmann, who is Professor of Public Health and Education at the Hertie School is part of the council which will meet twice per year from now on. The body includes nine researchers and two journalists as well as Federal Minister of the Interior, Thomas de Maizière. The council’s next meeting will take place in January 2015.
