An initiative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Federal Foreign Office to support international students in Germany.
This is the second year that the Hertie School has presented the DAAD Prize on behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to one of its international students. With the DAAD-Award, German universities honour an international degree-seeking student who has excelled through academic achievement and remarkable social or intercultural engagement. The prize money of €1000 is financed by the Federal Foreign Office to support international students in Germany.
This year’s DAAD Prize was awarded to Christopher Norman to mark the school's recognition of his academic record and commitment to the Hertie School Community. Christopher joined the Hertie School in the fall semester of 2015 as part of the first cohort of MIA students. He is originally from the US and holds a BA in Political Science with German minor. Having worked as a teacher in the field of social studies, he is now leading different workshops for the technology startup lehrermarktplatz. He has also worked as a research intern for ERCAS - European Research Centre for Anti-Corruption and State-Building.
"Christopher is known for his incredible curiosity, open-mindedness and eagerness to engage with people from different walks of life. He is thoughtful about connecting people and a very active member of various Hertie Student clubs and networks such as the Hertie Social Initiative Collaboration, Hertie Green Office and the Hertie Strategic Crisis Simulation Club. Together with Anas Attal he founded the International Relations Club that continues the Hertie School tradition of the Ambassador Series and organizes highly relevant events related to international affairs, diplomacy, and global issues," said Hertie School President, Helmut K. Anheier, at the presentation of the award on 9 November.
