Open Society Eurasia Fellows Training

In April 2019, the Hertie School provided a six-day Action Research • Visualization • Effective Writing training as part of the Open Society Foundation’s Eurasia public policy fellowship programme. During the course of the training, 18 researchers from Moldova, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan increased their capacity to produce effective policy proposals.

The Open Society Foundations  (OSF) work towards building open and tolerant societies. They do this through working on the rule of law; respect for human rights, minorities, and a diversity of opinion among other issues.The Eurasia fellowship programme focuses on advancing  democratic governance and accountability through grantmaking, advocacy and research, regional initiatives, and close engagement with local foundations.

Areas of focus

Throughout the six-day seminar, leading experts in the fields of policy-making and academia supported participants in enhancing their research projects and then translating them into effective policy proposals. They focused on research methods, digital tools and communication and writing hacks.

Learning goals, formats and outcomes

Participants of this Executive Education seminar saw their research projects being refined and had a chance to work on their research individually with faculty members. Through showcases of successful policy proposals, they developed proposals to have a positive impact on policymaking in their respective governments.
