Practice-based Teaching
Project Courses are a core part of the Professional Development module in the Master of Public Policy (MPP). They provide hands-on experience and deeper insights into public policy and governance, strengthening students’ ability to navigate their careers. These courses:
- Expose students to complex challenges in public policy and governance;
- Equip them with the skills to analyse and address these challenges;
- Foster innovative thinking under expert guidance;
- Connect academic learning to real-world problems, broadening professional perspectives.
Starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, practice-based courses will also be available in the Master of International Affairs (MIA), Master of Data Science for Public Policy (MDS), and Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA).
Current offerings of Project Courses from the Master of Public Policy (MPP) include:
- Monitoring & Evaluation of Social Programmes by Ruth Ditlmann
- Influencing Brussels: Making EU Climate Policies by Christine Reh, Jesse Scott and Sabrina Schulz
- Digital Development Cooperation by Toni Kaatz-Dubberke and Lukas Sonnenberg
- How to Make Government More Productive: Cases & Comparison by Thurid Hustedt

Policy Sprints
Policy Sprints are intense, two-day dynamic workshops were students are tasked with a real-world policy or governance challenge, guided by a practice partner.
