Integrated Professional Year with PD
Applicants with a strong interest in improving public service provision and investment can spend a full Professional Year at public sector consultancy PD between the first and second year of their Master of International Affairs or Master of Public Policy.
Students who participate in this programme leave the Hertie School of Governance for 12 months in order to acquire professional experience at PD, with a guaranteed salary of 40,200 euros per year gross (3,350 euros/month).
After the Professional Year, students return to the Hertie School for their final year of studies.
What is it?
Hertie School Integrated Professional Year is a structured programme in which students commit to pursue a Professional Year at the public sector consultancy PD with a guaranteed salary of 40,200 euros per year gross (3,350 euros/month) between the first and the second year of their Master of International Affairs or Master of Public Policy.
PD is a public, in-house consulting firm to the public sector that offers comprehensive project-based consulting and management services for all aspects of state-of-the-art administration and investment projects to the German federal, state and local governments and authorities as well as other clients from the public sector - from the development of strategic concepts to assistance during the implementation process. Their goal is to improve any public procurement projects as well as management processes by contributing to a more efficient and economic use of public resources.
Who is it for?
Applicants with a demonstrated interest in public sector consulting, public management and public sector reform processes who wish to pursue a degree in public policy or international affairs. For this programme, German language skills at a C1 level are required.
How to apply?
Interested candidates should submit a standard application to the Hertie School. In addition, applicants should convey their interest in a motivation letter highlighting what they find compelling about public sector consulting.
Once admitted, potential applicants will be shortlisted by the Hertie School. These applications are sent to PD, who will select the participants for the Integrated Professional Year. Admitted students will need to sign a contract with PD.
