Thráinn Eggertsson is adjunct professor at the Hertie School, and professor of economics at the Institute of Economic Studies, University of Iceland. Until 2010 he was also global distinguished professor of politics at New York University. In 1998-99 he was senior research fellow at a Max Planck Economics Institute in Jena; 1993-95 Visiting Scientist at the Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis, Indiana University; and 1992 honorary professor, School of Economics University of Hong Kong. Eggertsson served as president of the International Society for New Institutional Economics 2007-2008; and in 1998-2005 he co-edited for Cambridge University Press the book series Political Economy of Institutions and Decisions. His main field of study is comparative economic systems, their basic structure and evolution.
