Panayiotis Nicolaides is an applied microeconomist with interests in public economics and taxation. He received his education from the University of Oxford, the University of Manchester and he is currently a PhD researcher at the Hertie School. Before Hertie School, he worked at the European Commission and moved on to serve as Special Economic Advisor to the Greek Alternate Minister of Finance. Since 2015, he was assigned Alternate Member at the Eurogroup Working Group and Alternate Director at the European Stability Mechanism, where he oversaw the successful implementation of the third economic adjustment programme, contributed to the stabilisation of the economy and led the technical part of the debt relief negotiations, which resulted in substantial restructuring of the Greek public debt.
