The research project Public sector leadership and public management reform in Germany aims to analyse the current status quo of public sector leadership and public sector modernisation in Germany (at both federal and state levels) based on expert interviews and a Germany-wide executive survey. The project is conducted in cooperation with researchers from the University of Potsdam and Universität Leipzig and is supported by the Public Governance Institute (Institut für den öffentlichen Sektor). In particular, we are interested in the experiences and assessments of top civil servants with regard to current leadership challenges in the public sector, the usefulness of various reform concepts and performance management instruments, as well as different aspects of leadership development.
