Many professionals in the public, private and non-profit sectors want to improve their skills and qualifications and expand their networks, but may not have the time to complete an entire master’s programme. Executive certificates and intensive programmes provide a practical solution. By combining selected seminars, participants can choose between seven Hertie School certificates, three certificates in cooperation with ESCP Europe and five intensive programmes.
While in the certificate programme you have to complete grading requirements and also earn credits that you can transfer to the Executive Master of Public Administration, the intensive programmes do not require any assignments outside the classroom.
The registration for certificates and intensive programmes is possible at any time during the academic year. Most courses take place on an annual basis.
Each certificate requires participants to successfully complete three seminars/workshops and one skills training. Participants must allot time to prepare for seminars and to write follow-up assignments.
With a certificate, participants earn 11 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits. Credits can be transferred to the Executive Master of Public Administration programme, should participants consider enrolling at a later stage. Tuition fees paid for the seminar or certificate programme can be offset against the Executive Master tuition fees.

Hertie School - ESCP Europe Certificate Series
The Hertie School - ESCP Europe Certificate Series is a set of unique short-term executive programmes for managers working at the intersection of business, politics and civil society. Certificates each consist of three to four seminars (with 9-10 days in total), and they address issues and skills related to general management such as leadership, strategy and decision-making, as well as marketing and communication. The seminars cover the main concepts, principles and instruments as well as their application in different organisational contexts.
Most seminars take place in Berlin and on an annual basis, either at ESCP Europe or at the Hertie School. Two of the seminars take place at the ESCP Europe campus in London (UK).
Each certificate requires participants to successfully complete all seminars within two years. Credits can be transferred to ESCP Europe's Executive MBA programme and Hertie School's Executive MPA programme.
- Certificate in Marketing and Communication in Business, Politics and Society
- Certificate in Leadership in Business, Politics and Society
- Certificate in Strategy and Decision-Making in Business, Politics and Society
Each programme requires participants to successfully complete two courses – either two executive seminars, one executive seminar and one skills training or one executive seminar and one workshop.
Participants are strongly encouraged to prepare for the executive seminars/workshop, but are not required to complete assignments.
However, if you wish to earn ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits (5-6 ECTS credits depending on the programme), you have to complete all course requirements. Credits can be transferred to the Executive Master of Public Administration programme, should participants consider enrolling at a later stage. Tuition fees paid for an intensive programme can be offset against the Executive Master tuition fees.
