Economics I: Applied economic analysis

The course is an introduction to micro- and macroeconomics for non-economists. Against this background, the goal of the class is to provide students with: a thorough understanding of professional economists' way of thinking; a complete overview of the most important topics and approaches in micro- and macroeconomics; a passive knowledge of the most relevant models and concepts for the understanding of economic issues in public policy-making; and a hands-on approach to the application of state of the art research in economics. The course will focus on the core topics of micro- and macroeconomics. Theories and models will have to be learned and understood. Applications will mainly be used as illustrations.

Please note: Students with a first degree in economics or advanced economic training from an interdisciplinary study program, can request a waiver for the introductory C7 course and replace it with an Economic advanced course. The waiver process for 1st year students is organised via Moodle.
