Applied migration research

This course gives an applied introduction to migration research, focusing mostly on migration to and within European countries and other industrialized societies. We explore classical readings and theories of migration research. Why do people migrate across borders? What are the factors that facilitate an integration of migrants into the host societies? Should and can policies regulate migration? This course is an applied course which means that we will conduct own analysis with macro and micro level data sets. In group projects, we will analyze the determinants of migration, the labor market assimilation of migrants and the attitudes of the receiving country towards migrants and foreigners.

This course is for 2nd year MIA and MPP students only.
