Current challenges to urban policy and governance

The course aims to provide the student with practical and theoretical tools to read the city through the study and analysis of urban policy and governance in relation to some of the most relevant issues that cities and their populations deal with. We will look at different governance regimes and how cities are shaped through policy making, innovation and the role of citizens.

The course is case oriented and aims to enhance comparison throughout. The course will mainly cover OECD countries and BRICS with some references to urban agglomerations in other parts of the world.

This course is for 2nd year MIA and MPP students only.
