Development economics

The topic of this class will be development in low-income countries, paying particular attention to the institutional and behavioral hurdles to reducing poverty. As an example we will cover: micro-finance, state capacity, health/education, political conflict, etc. While this class aims to be comprehensive, we will focus on the most recent academic literature, covering a variety of research methods including traditional data analysis and field experiments; at the end of this class, students will familiar with the current state-of-art in development economics. Students taking this class should be familiar with economics and basic statistical analysis.
