Franziska Brantner has been in the German Bundestag since 2013. Since 2021, she is a directly elected Member of Parliament for the Heidelberg Neckar-Bergstraße constituency. Before that, she was a Member of the European Parliament for four years. Born in Baden-Württemberg, she studied political science and economics, is a social scientist and has degrees from Paris and New York. She completed her doctoral thesis on the United Nations' capacity for reform in Mannheim. From December 2013 to September 2017, Franziska Brantner was Spokesperson for Children and Family Policy for the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group in the Bundestag; from March 2014 to September 2017, she was Chair of the Subcommittee on Civilian Crisis Prevention, Conflict Transformation and Networked Action; from 2013 to 2017, she was a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on European Union Affairs. From February 2018 to September 2021, she was Parliamentary Secretary and European Policy Spokesperson of the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group, Chairwoman of the Committee on the Affairs of the European Union and Substitute Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Since December 2021, Franziska Brantner has been Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
