Dr. Norbert Röttgen is Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the German Bundestag. He served as the German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety from 2009 until 2012. A key focus of his tenure was on international climate change and Germany's decision to shift to an economy based largely on renewable energy, known as the Energiewende. He has been a Member of the Bundestag since 1994, fulfilling key functions within the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) and the German government. His first book, Deutschlands beste Jahre kommen noch, (Germany's best years are yet to come), was published in 2009. It calls for a strategic and well-thought-out German political agenda that exercises a formative influence on globalisation, rather than being at its mercy.
