Unicum Foundation recognises Pierre Thielbörger as one of Germany’s top three professors in economics and law

2021 award was given for excellent teaching and also support for students during the pandemic.

Pierre Thielbörger, Adjunct Professor of Law and Governance at the Hertie School, has been recognised by the Unicum Foundation as one of Germany’s three best professors of 2021 in the economics and law category.

The 2021 award recognised professors who, in addition to their excellent teaching, provided exceptional advice and assistance to their students despite pandemic-related restrictions. Several thousand university lecturers from all over Germany were nominated.

The Unicum Foundation announced the winners of the competition on 1 December, 2021. Award winners are selected annually by an independent jury, and the competition is under the patronage of the German ministries of Education and Research and Economics and Energy.

In addition to being an adjunct at the Hertie School, Thielbörger heads the Chair of Public Law and International Law as well at the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). At Hertie, he is an adjunct in the field of Law and Governance.

“I am particularly grateful that apparently many students supported my nomination,” he said. During the pandemic, he said, it was important to him not just to make the lessons interactive and varied online, “but also to keep an open ear for the needs of students during this challenging period,” he added.

Thielbörger is also an associated member of Hertie's Centre for Fundamental Rights and coach for Hertie's Jessup International Law Moot Court team.
