Joanna Bryson comments on the impact of AI on humanity in Financial Times video short

“It’s our job to make sure that we have machinery that we can keep control of,” the Professor of Ethics and Technology says.

How will AI change our common future? In a Financial Times video interview with Artificial Intelligence experts, Professor of Ethics and Technology Joanna Bryson advocates the governance of AI. The video aired on 14 December 2023. Asked about the danger AI might pose to society once it succeeds human knowledge, the Professor at the Centre for Digital Governance points to the need for regulatory frameworks. “It’s basically our job to make sure that we have machinery that we can keep control of,” she says.

According to the Financial Times, another perceived threat was the disruption of the workplace. “A lot of people will find they have skills that are more valuable than they would have been before. And a lot of people will find that the skills they’ve spent decades acquiring are no longer very valuable,” Bryson comments. Governments will need to offer support so that people are not left behind, she argues.
Other topics covered in the short series include the “AI-fication” of the human body, its influence on the economy and much more.
