Berlin, 8 May 2014 – To mark its 10th Anniversary, the Hertie School is hosting a European Week around the European Elections on 25 May: Five events from 21 to 28 May will unpack key challenges, Europe currently faces. The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and former European Commission President, Jacques Delors will discuss the future of the shared economic and currency union on 21 May at the opening of the new Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin, a joint initiative of the Hertie School and the French Think Tank Notre Europe. At a European Elections Night on 25 May, the former EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, will share his first impressions on the election results, with guests including key political representatives from Berlin and Brussels as well as current and former Hertie School students from across the globe. German Federal Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble and the President of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, will both speak at the international symposium on governance in Europe on 27/28 May. Leading scholars from all over Europe will also be in discussion with EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva, former Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, George Papandreou and former Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Borys Tarasyuk. Hertie School Dean, Helmut K. Anheier: “A lot hangs in the balance for Europe in 2014. During this phase, the Hertie School will do what it has been doing best for 10 years: infusing the governance debate with timely perspectives through teaching, research, and debate.”
Hertie School study programmes are in demand
With over 570 alumni from 40 countries, an international core faculty with 21 members, over 25 partner universities around the world, and a strong, ever-expanding network of professional partners and funders, the Hertie School is well established and on track for further growth.
Around 180 young leaders, executives and doctoral students – a record number – will start their studies in September 2014 in one of the School’s three programmes. “A sound understanding of governance challenges and intersectoral competences are, more than ever, essential aspects of every modern management programme. This explains the success of our programmes, all of which combine practice relevance with interdisciplinary research,” says Anheier.
