The Hertie School has announced the appointment of its new Managing Director.
The Hertie School has announced the appointment of its new Managing Director. Anna Sophie Herken (39) will join the School's leadership team on 1 April and will work alongside the Dean, Professor Helmut K. Anheier, PhD, and Associate Dean, Professor Dr. Henrik Enderlein, as the administrative director.
Herken most recently worked as principal adviser to the General Secretariat of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London. She has also worked at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the World Bank. As a qualified lawyer, Herken has also served as an adjunct lecturer at the American University in Washington D.C. and the Free University of Berlin.
In the seven years since its foundation the Hertie School has established itself as a leading Public Policy School in Germany with an international faculty and student body. At present 230 students are enrolled for the school's Master of Public Policy (MPP) and Executive Master of Public Management. Half of these students come from Germany and the others come from 40 nations worldwide. The Hertie School's research and teaching are set apart by an interdisciplinary, intersectoral character, a strong practice-orientation and an international network of first-class partner universities.
The Hertie School's research agenda is continually expanding with core areas of focus including “Finance and Public Budgets”, “Labour and Social Policy” and “Regulation”. The school's faculty members and researchers contribute to various international research projects. In step with an expanding research agenda the school's core faculty will increase to 20 in 2011, with four new professors joining this group of Social, Economic, Political and Legal Theorists.
