Admissions for MDS

Admission requirements

To be eligible to join the Master of Data Science for Public Policy, you need to fulfil the following requirements:

  1. A bachelor’s degree
    Either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree with 180 ECTS credits from an accredited college or university. If you do not yet have your undergraduate degree at the time of application, please indicate when you will receive it on the online application form. You must complete all of your undergraduate academic course work and exams before 1 September 2024 in order to matriculate.
  2. English language proficiency: strong command of the English language
    Strong command of the English language as established by completion of an undergraduate-level degree at an English-language academic institution or by taking an English test. These tests and scores are accepted: 

TOEFL | CBT 250 | iBT 100 (Writing 25)

Cambridge ESOL | CPE C | CAE B

IELTS | Overall = 7.0 | Writing 7.0

Duolingo English Test | 125

Please note that the test may not be older than two years and that the deadline to submit proof of sufficient English proficiency is 1 June 2024. If you are admitted, you must submit proof by this deadline in order to enroll.

To increase your chances of receiving a full or partial scholarship, you are encouraged to apply by 1 February. Applications are accepted until 1 May.

Selection criteria

All applications are assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Academic excellence (weighted with 40%)
    Strength of academic background, academic performance - grades/transcripts, general academic qualification, linguistic qualification.
  • Quantitative and technical ability (weighted with 30%)
    Training in mathematics and statistics in addition to programming experience, as demonstrated by a relevant degree, coursework or extra-curricular projects.
  • Personal suitability and motivation (weighted with 30%)
    CV, professional experience, entrepreneurship, international experience, civic engagement.
